Woodhead Wins Energy Efficiency Award for Lincolnshire Rural Housing Association Development
Woodhead has been awarded the FMB Master Builder of the Year Award 2008 for the Yorkshire and Trent region in the category of Energy Efficiency.
Woodhead Quantity Surveyor, Daniel King and Site Manager, Eddie Lucas collected the award from Federation of Master Builders Regional Director, Ron Wilsonfor the completion of a £1.4 million project in Bicker, Lincolnshire for Lincolnshire Rural Housing Association. Whilst Woodhead’s collected the award the excellence of project is also due to the collaborative working between the client, the architect, Roger Case Design & Management and Andrew Marston Associates working as contract administrators.
The panel of judges decided that the Bicker Phase 3 scheme demonstrated the best use of energy efficiency features designed to save energy, reduce costs and minimise the overall environmental impact.
The innovative project involved the use of a highly energy efficient Swedish timber frame system for four three-bedroom and eight two-bedroom, semi-detached homes. In addition, high insulation, triple glazing and state-of-the-art air management and heat recovery systems were also important elements of this highly energy efficient build project.
Woodhead’s Head of Business Development, Glenn Slater says: “This project was a great success for us and one that we are very proud of, not least because we achieved all the targets for energy efficiency that will save residents money on heating bills, but also because we built them in 29 weeks, one week ahead of time”.
Ron Wilson says: “The Bicker project is a perfect example of the buildings of the future, combining a sense of style with rigorous environmental standards”.
Woodhead will now represent the region in this category in the National Master Builder of the Year Awards to be held on November 13th 2008 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. The project has also been shortlisted for the EMCBE awards, taking place on 14th October at East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.
