Woodhead lead the way at Bolsover Castle
Woodhead have been appointed main contractor on a two stage project to repair and refurbish the roof of Bolsover Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument owned and operated by English Heritage.
Works include the erection of a high level scaffold and temporary roof system operating in such a way as to form a protective shield to the Castle roof below.
Works to the fabric of the roof itself are to stop the existing leaks and include altering the pitch of the roof, making it steeper so it sheds water more quickly.
In addition we are carrying out repairs to eroded stonework on the Castle's parapet and corner towers, sourcing the original Mansfield stone from a bridge demolished recently in Newark as a best match.
Woodhead are maintaining very high levels of health & safety, liaising with Bolsover site staff on a daily basis to address any issues and to ensure all health & safety requirements are covered as the Castle is a very popular visitor attraction. Herras fencing is set up around the whole construction site.
The project is extremely sensitive due to the historical and cultural importance of Bolsover Castle and the size and scope of scaffolding required to carry out this project.
Phase one will being in January 2009, and is expected to be completed in June. Phase 2 is scheduled to commence in the autumn. In all, the project cost is around £320K.
