Winner of the Certificate of Craftsmanship 2009 for Lead Works.
This was an extremely sensitive project on a scheduled ancient monument, managed by English Heritage, including the repair and refurbishment of the roof, altering the pitch.
In addition, the project involved extensive stonework repairs to the castle’s parapet and corner tower. This complex project remained open to the public for the duration of the work with Woodhead ensuring all health and safety requirements were covered.
When the project began in January, a large amount of snowfall caused difficulties for the Woodhead’s team to continue work as efficiently as they had hoped. Our team pulled together with our subcontractors and worked through the atrocious snow conditions to keep up with the programme. The scaffolding was extensive and needed a specialist scaffold contractor to erect it.
A wedding was also scheduled at Bolsover Castle at the same time as the works. Woodhead came up with a solution to accelerate the program by employing multiple shifts and seven day working. Woodhead were environmentally responsible recycling 96% of the materials on the roof. Skips used on site were reduced with materials being reused within this scheme. Wastecycle worked with us to recycle the rest of the material. Reusing the material also helped reduce cost and with meeting the client’s budget.
Woodhead Heritage have recently recieved an Award of Certificate of Craftsmanship 2009 for this project.
